BIOGRAPHY

Greg W. Locke (b. 1980, Fort Wayne, IN), creatively known as Bozo Locke, is a multi-disciplinary artist who recently traded the frenetic energy of New York City for the creative calm of Portland, Oregon. With a career spanning over two decades, Locke has quietly worked to build a reputation as an independent auteur, moving between the worlds of underground filmmaking, abstract painting, and, at the professional level, Creative Direction.

During his decade-plus tenure in NYC, Locke solidified his status as a versatile Creative with a focus on filmwork. He is the force behind the acclaimed feature film Forever Into Space (2015), a gritty, black-and-white exploration of millennial life that earned praise for its raw authenticity and “shoestring-budget brilliance.” His filmography, which includes the art-house music documentary Holler and the Moan and the Brutalist drama Drinking Water, has collectively garnered over two dozen award nominations. Locke’s cinematic style is defined by its "outsider" perspective — “a commitment to capturing the unpolished, honest textures of human experience.”

While in New York, Locke lent his design and curatorial talents to legendary institutions, serving as a Graphic Designer for the Strand Book Store and helping manage the iconic Rough Trade store at Rockefeller Center. Along the way, Locke also spent significant time working in the film studios at Sweetwater Sound, directing, editing, shooting and producing hundreds of videos (while also working on TV shows like Broad City and Blue Bloods). Now committed to Portland, he continues his deep dive into music and film culture as a Buyer for Music Millennium, bringing his 29-year passion for record- and video store-work to one of the country’s most legendary shops.

While Locke has been a daily painter for years, his work has largely existed behind the scenes, selling hundreds of pieces directly to collectors around New York City. The spring of 2026 marks Locke’s first-ever solo show, a formal unveiling of his abstract portraits and technique-focused, tactile compositions. This exhibition, titled Bozo Street Malakas, represents the culmination of a lifelong dedication to craft—merging the relentless work ethic of an NYC filmmaker with the contemplative focus of a Pacific Northwest kook.

Bozo Street Malakas will run at Mint Gallery Records (3912 N. Mississippi Ave., Portland, OR) from March 13 thru April 8. Opening reception: March 13, 5-8 PM.  (March, 2026)
