sa●ram (human being)

Sa-ram (사람) is the korean term for human-being. This exhibit at Mint Gallery Records will explore themes of humanity and what it means to be human.

Working under the moniker Umami Mami - an intentionally playful nod to cultural heritage that injects levity into a bleak visual landscape - is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice explores the intersection of biological anatomy, computational design, and extreme subcultures. Born in Seoul and raised across the Washington D.C. area before relocating to Oregon, the artist approaches visual creation through the rigorous lens of an engineer, holding a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering with a focus on biomechanics and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering in materials science. This technical foundation directly fuels a fascination with structural transformation, the human form, and tactile materials. Drawing inspiration from death metal, vintage print media, and modern technological aesthetics, the resulting imagery juxtaposes dark, psychological depths with uncompromising precision.
